College of Lake County

Sam Choy serves as Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at the College of Lake County, where he is building a competitive and player-focused program centered on development, teamwork, accountability, and preparing student-athletes for success both on and off the court.

In his first full season leading the Lancers in 2026, Choy guided CLC to an impressive 18–10 record (best in more than 10 seasons), establishing the Lancers once again as a competitive NJCAA Division II program in the region. The team’s success last season has also been reflected in individual recognition for CLC student-athletes. With three athletes receiving All Region and All Conference honors.

Coach Choy brings more than 15 years of coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, and club levels. A former collegiate volleyball player at the University of Illinois Chicago, he has coached and developed athletes across a wide range of competitive levels and brings that experience to recruiting and developing the next generation of Lancers.
His coaching philosophy emphasizes a fast, aggressive and disciplined style of volleyball built around strong serve-and-pass fundamentals, defense, offensive tempo, and competing with confidence. Equally important is creating a positive team culture where student-athletes are challenged to grow, support one another, enjoy competing together, and represent CLC with excellence.

Coach Choy and his staff are committed to making CLC an outstanding destination for student-athletes who want to compete at the collegiate level, develop their game, pursue their academic goals, and potentially continue their volleyball careers at four-year institutions.

Away from the court, Choy has spent much of his professional career in executive leadership and higher education and has taught undergraduate and graduate business courses.
