Lancers Finish 2nd at Regionals, Advance to Nationals

All six Lancer singles players came out swinging, winning their first-round matches at Regionals, held indoors at Park Forest Tennis Club.

  • Dwayne Daarol (No. 1) rolled through McHenry 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the finals, where he faced Prairie State in a rematch. Daarol battled but fell 3-6, 1-6.

  • Evan Bernales (No. 2) came up short against a hard-hitting Oakton opponent 3-6, 5-7 but bounced back to win his playoff match and take 3rd place.

  • Seth Lampkin (No. 3) cruised past Oakton to reach the finals, where he faced another Prairie State rematch. Lampkin fought hard but lost 5-7, 1-6.

  • Pablo Galan (No. 4) lost to Elgin and then fell in a marathon playoff tiebreaker against Illinois Valley late into the night.

  • Mark Hornung (No. 5) lost to Prairie State but bounced back to upset Moraine Valley for 3rd place, turning around their previous dual match result.

  • Vinny Marino (No. 6) battled through a tough semifinal, rallying from behind to win, but eventually fell to Prairie State in the finals.

Doubles Play — Strong Start, Tough Finishes
Day two continued with a strong showing in doubles as all teams won their first-round matches:

  • Daarol/Bernales defeated Illinois Valley at No. 1.

  • Lampkin/Galan beat Oakton at No. 2.

  • Reyes/Hornung topped Elgin at No. 3.

In the semifinals:

  • Daarol/Bernales pulled out a gritty win over Oakton, 7-5, 6-1.

  • Lampkin/Galan handled Elgin 6-3, 6-2.

  • Hornung/Reyes fell to McHenry 1-6, 3-6, then lost a tight tiebreaker to Illinois Valley.

Later in the afternoon, play moved outdoors to Prairie State College.

  • Lampkin/Galan and Daarol/Bernales both fell to Prairie State in their final matches, with Daarol/Bernales losing a close one 4-6, 3-6.

Team Finish
The Lancers reached the finals in five divisions, securing 2nd place overall behind champion Prairie State.

Next Up: Nationals
The Lancers now set their sights on the NJCAA Nationals, which will take place in Florence, South Carolina, from May 10–16.
