The College of Lake County Lancers closed out their regular season in dominant fashion, sweeping Oakton Owls 9-0 on April 21.
The match was highlighted by an incredible comeback at #1 doubles, where Seth Lampkin and Marshawn Gallego saved multiple match points before winning a dramatic tiebreaker 9-8 (7-5). The Lancers controlled the rest of doubles play, as Anthony Shultis and Chris Donkor at #2, along with Nathan Popov and Pablo Galan at #3, secured decisive victories.
In singles, the momentum continued. Gallego earned a key win to lock in the #2 seed at regionals, while Shultis matched that effort with a strong performance at #2 singles. Popov added a solid victory at #3, and Lampkin battled through before pulling away for a win at #4. Donkor and Vinny Marino capped off the sweep with commanding wins at #5 and #6.
With the victory, the Lancers finish the season 9-1 and now turn their focus to the upcoming regional tournament, set for April 24-25 at Park Forest Tennis and Health Club. The team enters postseason play with its sights set on qualifying for the national championship in Plano, TX.
