Lancers Gut Out Tough 66–61 Win Over Governors State JV
The College of Lake County Women's Basketball team picked up a hard-earned 66–61 victory Wednesday night over a talented and experienced Governors State JV squad. Despite the "JV" label, GSU featured multiple upperclassmen with collegiate experience; players who competed with poise, physicality, and a clear understanding of how to win.
Coming off their 3rd game in 4 days, the Lancers looked a step slow early and struggled to find their rhythm. GSU capitalized, pushing the pace and making CLC work for every possession. The Lancers found themselves trailing by one at halftime in a game that never allowed them to fully settle in.
The second half became a true back-and-forth battle, with neither team gaining more than a 6 point advantage. Every possession felt critical, and both teams answered runs with counters of their own. But down the stretch, CLC showed the toughness and resilience that has become a defining trait of this group.
The Lancers dug deep, tightened their defense, and made timely plays on both ends to secure a gritty, quality win over a GSU squad that, without question, would finish in the top half of Region 4, if they competed in it.
CLC was led by a balanced and impactful scoring effort:
-
Annamaria Luna: 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists — steadying the offense and making key plays late
-
Tatijana Ninkovic: 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists — providing an aggressive scorer and versatile play making
-
Olivia Robinson: 15 points (4–8 from 3), 5 rebounds, 3 steals — knocking down big shots and sparking defensive momentum
-
Monica Sierzputowski: 14 points and a dominant 19 rebounds — controlling the paint and cleaning the glass at an elite level
The Lancers now turn their attention to another road test as they travel to Milwaukee, WI on Wednesday to take on Milwaukee Area Tech College at 6 p.m.
