The CLC Women's Tennis team opened their season against Illinois Valley. In doubles play, Sasha Baer and Linnea Lindstrom battled in a back-and-forth match at the No. 1 spot before falling 8-5, while Danielle Gatta and Valerie Mendoza dropped their match 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Baer picked up her first collegiate victory at No. 1 singles with a strong 6-4, 6-1 win. Lindstrom fell at No. 2 to a consistent opponent, while Gatta competed hard in the No. 3 position but came up short. Making her college debut, Melanie Garcia showed great effort at No. 4 singles before being out steadied. Mendoza also battled in a close contest at No. 5 singles.

The Lancers return to action Monday as they travel to face Carthage College at 4 p.m. at the Smeds Tennis Center.
