The College of Lake County women's tennis team pulled out a thrilling 5-4 victory in its first home match of the season.

The Lancers got things started in doubles play, as Emeri Oliver and Sophie Lelchuk battled to an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Valerie Mendoza and Ananya Murli came up just short, falling 6-8.

The No. 2 doubles match provided plenty of drama. Reagan Mohr and Melanie Garcia found themselves down 4-7 but continued to battle, forcing a tiebreaker. The duo finished the comeback by winning the tiebreaker 7-3 to earn a hard-fought 9-8 victory.

In singles action, Oliver picked up the first point at No. 1 singles by default, while Mohr dominated at No. 3 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Lelchuk fell 3-6, 1-6 at No. 2 singles, while Garcia dropped her No. 4 singles match 1-6, 1-6. Murli battled at No. 6 singles but fell 0-6, 0-6.

With the match tied at 4-4, Mendoza stepped onto the court with the team victory on the line. She delivered, earning a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles to clinch the 5-4 victory for the Lancers.

The Lancers will hit the road Monday when they travel to Carthage College for a 4 p.m. match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
