Lancers Place 6th at Ken Weidt Cross Country Classic

The College of Lake County Men's Cross Country team traveled to Mequon, WI on Saturday to compete in the 29th Annual Ken Weidt Cross Country Classic hosted by Concordia University Wisconsin.

In the men's race, 66 competitors raced the 8K course along Lake Michigan. In his debut race, freshman standout Cody Arenas (Round Lake) led the Lancers with a 20th place finish in a time of 28:53. Oscar Covarrubias (Grayslake North) edged out the only other Community College runner in the field with a time of 31:58 for a 46th place finish. The Lancer's only returner from last season, Ryan Bishop (Grant) clocked a 32:35 only three places behind his teammate. Josiah Uchiek (Zion Benton) placed 58th in 34:08 and Antonio Salgado (Zion Benton) finished 61st in 35:02 to complete the scoring for the Lancers.  Also competing for CLC was Juan Amador.

“ We are a very young team and we learned a lot today.” said Head Coach Jorge Colin. “ We are excited to be healthy and out here competing this year. I'm extremely proud of our men for hanging in there, as this was the first 8k for six of our men and they will continue to get better.”

The Lancers lace their racing shoes back up next weekend as they head to Whitewater, WI to compete in the Tom Hoffman Invitational hosted by University of Wisconsin - Whitewater.
