Lancers Lock In and Run Away from #10 Joliet JC

The Lancers delivered a resounding response Tuesday night, bouncing back from last Thursday's road defeat with a commanding 73–50 victory over No. 10-ranked Joliet Junior College in the NJCAA Division III polls.

"I loved our response tonight," said Coach Morris. "We challenged them after Thursday, and from the opening tip our focus, energy, and togetherness were exactly what this program is about."

CLC wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to a 20–9 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. A major emphasis entering the game was limiting Joliet's interior presence, and the Lancers executed the defensive game plan to near perfection. Joliet standout Destynia McGruder was held to just 7 points and 3 rebounds; Well below her season averages of 14.8 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.

"Our kids were locked in defensively," Morris said. "Holding a player of McGruder's caliber to those numbers takes a total team effort, and our discipline and communication was outstanding."

Relentless team defense fueled the Lancers throughout the first half, as they carried a 39–18 advantage into the locker room.

"We talked about setting the tone early, and our group did that on both ends of the floor," Morris added. "When we defend and share the ball like that, we can be really tough to play against."

The intensity continued in the second half as CLC pushed the tempo, controlled the glass, and steadily pulled away to secure the 23 point victory.

Leading the way was Arianna Myers, who provided a huge spark off the bench with 22 points and 7 rebounds.

"Arianna gave us a huge spark off the bench," Morris said. "Her aggressiveness and confidence lifted everyone, and that's exactly what you want from your depth."

Annamaria Luna added 16 points and 4 rebounds, Olivia Robinson stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, Monica Sierzputowski contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Nevada Holm posted 9 points and a game high 12 rebounds.

"I'm proud of how we sustained our intensity for 40 minutes," Morris said. "This was a complete team win against a very good program, and it shows the growth of this group."

With the win, the Lancers improve to 11–3 on the season, ranked #25 in the country and will close out the semester on the road Thursday, December 18, with a 5:00 p.m. tipoff at NJCAA Division I Sauk Valley Community College.
