Box Score FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. Kaylie Kanzler, of The College of Lake County's Women's Basketball team, has been named the NJCAA District D Player of the Week for the week of February 2 - 8, 2015.
Kanzler is a freshman from Grant High School. In the Lancers win on February 7 against Morton College, Kaylie had 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. She also had 17 points and 7 rebounds vs. Moraine Valley earlier in the week.
For the season, Kanzler is averaging 21.1 points – currently ranking her 12th in the nation - and 8.8 rebounds per game. The game against Morton was the fourth time this season in which Kanzler has scored over 30 points.
"Kaylie has done a fantastic job for us, and is well deserving of this award; I am just surprised it took her this long to win it. She has had a tremendous year for us," said Coach Kyle Brokmeier. "What is even more impressive is how tough she is. She has battled all season with a variety of injuries. Her wrist hurt early in the season, but she kept playing. Her knee shut her down for a little bit, and just as she was starting to get her timing back, she missed some games with a broken nose." Kanzler missed five games in January with a strained knee ligament, and then two more because of a broken nose. She is currently playing with a mask
The College of Lake County's women's basketball team plays again Thursday, February 12 at home against Elgin Community College. Game time is 5:15 p.m.
