On Sophomore Night, the College of Lake County Lancers overcame a slow start and turned up the intensity to defeat Waubonsee Community College 73–61, capping off a historic regular season.
The Chiefs came out aggressive, jumping to an early first-quarter lead. But the Lancers quickly found their rhythm, roaring back to take a 20–18 advantage by the end of the opening frame. From there, the Lancers locked in defensively over the next two quarters.
CLC pushed its lead to 38–34 at halftime before making key adjustments at the break. The defensive pressure ramped up in the third quarter, as the Lancers held Waubonsee to just 8 points while extending the lead to 54–42 heading into the fourth.
Despite a late rally from the Chiefs, the Lancers responded every time. Stretching the lead back to double digits down the stretch, CLC closed out a quality 73–61 victory in front of the home crowd.
With the win, the Lancers finish the regular season 25–5, setting a program record for most regular season victories and extend their win streak to 11 games heading into postseason play.
The balanced attack was once again on display:
The Lancers will learn their postseason bracket on Sunday but already know they will host a first-round tournament matchup on Wednesday (2/25) as they look to make a run back to the NJCAA National Tournament.
