Lancers Cross Country Runners Compete at Nationals

The Lancer Cross Country season came to an end this weekend with a trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Meet hosted by Iowa Central College in Fort Dodge, IA.

There were over 55 schools represented and 320 athletes crossed the finish line, the Lancers finished 31st overall.

The Lancers saw a new frontman in Jeffrey Meverden (SO/Lake Villa, Illinois) who paced the team in his final race as a Lancer, running the 8k course in 27:34 for 133rd place overall followed by the strongest freshmen class in NJCAA Region IV. Rounding out the scoring for the Lancers were Jeremy Wallace (FR/Lindenhurst, Illinois) who placed 145th, followed closely by Michael Schonter (FR/Zion, Illinois) in 159th, Nicholas Zblewski (FR/Gurnee, Illinois) in 216th and Frederick Mascorro (FR/Zion, Illinois) in 229th.

The final two runners representing the Lancers were Cameron Detweiler (FR/Grayslake, Illinois) in 240th and Tyler Glassman (SO/Antioch, Illinois) in 274th.

Coach Jorge Colin was pleased with how his runners handled the conditions. "These young men went after it early and left it all out there," said Colin. "We are a young team and this race provided a huge learning opportunity that will serve as motivation for next season."
