Behind 3 goals from Rachel Moore (So.) and 3 assists from Alexandria Wawrzyniak (Fr.), the Lancers recorded their first win of the season, a convincing 6-1 victory, against Region IV opponent South Suburban College Saturday in South Holland.
After two narrow 1-0 losses last week, the Lancers bounced back this week with 4 goals in the second half to put away the Bulldogs. The Lancers created several chances in the first half, but couldn't break through until Morgan Keefer took a pass from Gisselle Lugo and beat the South Suburban keeper for her first goal of the season with 19 minutes to play in the first half. Two minutes later Rachel Moore scored her first of three goals with an assist from Victoria Medina. After taking a 2-1 lead into halftime, Medina recorded her first goal of the season after a through ball from Wawrzyniak three minutes into the second half.
From there, the Lancers cruised with 2 more goals from Moore and a first-ever collegiate goal with ten minutes left in the game from Sophomore Silvia Gomez. Head Coach Kevin Talbot was happy with his team's performance. "We worked quite a bit on finishing chances this week so it was good to see the players follow through with some goals," Talbot said. Although the Bulldogs had several good scoring opportunities of their own, a stingy defense led by Annalyse Maze and Mackenzie Parchment, plus 9 saves from keeper Giselle Raygoza, kept South Suburban from finishing their chances.
The Lancers return to action Wednesday, September 11, with a home game against conference opponent Elgin Community College.
