The College of Lake County women's soccer team continued its strong start to conference play Wednesday, earning an important 2-1 victory over Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Heights, IL.

The Lancers wasted no time making their presence felt.

In the 11th minute, freshman Madelynn Landa found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, sending a beautiful shot over the outstretched arms of the Moraine Valley goalkeeper. Sophomore Grace Quirke picked up the assist as CLC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead.

The Cyclones answered just two minutes later, scoring in the 13th minute to level the match at 1-1.

CLC quickly responded.

In the 23rd minute, sophomore Kaylan Acosta delivered what would prove to be the game-winning goal, calmly finishing a pass from freshman Jocelyn Lopez to put the Lancers back in front, 2-1.

From there, the Lancers went to work protecting the lead.

Both teams created opportunities throughout the second half, but CLC's defense stood tall when it mattered most. Freshman goalkeeper Genesis Hurtado came up with several key saves and kept the Cyclones off the scoreboard over the final 67 minutes, preserving the 2-1 victory.

With the win, the Lancers improve to 2-0 in conference play and 3-1-1 overall on the season.

CLC will look to keep the momentum rolling as the Lancers continue their push through conference play.
