Milwaukee, WI
The College of Lake County Lancers women's soccer team opened the NJCAA Region 4 Tournament in impressive fashion, defeating the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers 3-1 on the road Thursday afternoon.
The Lancers came out strong and took control early. Freshman
Olivia Christy put CLC on the board first, finishing a clean pass from sophomore captain
Berenice Gonzalez midway through the first half. Not long after, freshman
Ashley Melgoza converted a penalty kick to double the lead and give the Lancers a comfortable 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The second half saw physical play from both sides, with each team creating scoring chances. The Lancers extended their lead when Christy found the back of the net again — her second goal of the day — on a beautiful cross from sophomore
Alejandra Colo.
The Stormer's managed to convert a penalty kick later in the half, but the Lancer defense, anchored by their goalkeeper,
Makayla Doschadis, and back line, held firm to secure the 3-1 victory.
With the win, the College of Lake County advances to the Region 4 Quarterfinals, where they will face Rock Valley College on Sunday in Rockford.
