The Lancers continued to challenge themselves with one of the toughest schedules in the country this weekend, traveling to Freeport, Illinois to compete in the Highland Community College Tournament.
CLC opened the tournament Friday night against NJCAA Division I powerhouse Highland CC. The Lancers set the tone early and carried a 32–28 lead into halftime, but a strong second half from the hosts led to a 75–65 setback despite a hard-fought performance.
With the loss, the Lancers moved to the consolation side of the bracket and faced the No. 23-ranked team in the country at the NJCAA Division II level. CLC was again right there at the break, locked in a 35–35 tie at halftime. The Lancers continued to battle, but ultimately fell 83–77. Quinn Athanassoulis led the way with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jayden Hall added 16 points.
After a quick turnaround following a 9:30 a.m. tip-off earlier Saturday, the Lancers returned to the floor at 4:00 p.m. to face Macomb Community College. CLC came out firing on all cylinders, building a commanding 42–25 halftime lead. Fatigue set in during the second half as the team played its third game in two days, but the Lancers stayed together, defended, and executed down the stretch to secure a hard-earned 71–67 victory and close out the weekend on a high note.
The weekend served as another test against elite competition and highlighted the Lancers' toughness, depth, and resilience as they continue to prepare for the grind of the season.
Next up is Joliet Junior College Monday, December 15th at 7:15PM.
