Game 1: 5-3
The College of Lake County baseball team jumped out to an early lead and held on late for a 5-3 win over Moraine Valley Community College on Saturday.
CLC struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, capitalizing on a Moraine Valley error that plated two runs, followed by an RBI double from Angel Berrios to make it 3-0. The Lancers added two more runs in the second inning, taking advantage of another Moraine Valley miscue and a sacrifice fly from Albert Jaquez to build a 5-0 lead.
Tayton Herron earned the win for the Lancers, allowing just one run on five hits across six innings, striking out one and walking three. Max Woll and Will Schufreider came on in relief, with Schufreider recording the save.
At the plate, Kyle Larson set the pace from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4. Berrios, Tony Gura, and Jaquez each contributed an RBI. The Lancers stayed aggressive on the bases, swiping five stolen bases without committing a defensive error. Jaquez anchored the defense with seven putouts.
Moraine Valley made a late push, scoring runs on a pair of singles and a walk, but ultimately fell short. The Cyclones were led by #26, who went 2-for-3, while #5, #24, and #7 each collected an RBI.
Game 2: 11-2
The College of Lake County used a steady offensive attack and strong pitching to defeat Moraine Valley Community College, 11-2, on Saturday at the Grayslake Campus.
Kyle Larson sparked the offense, going 3-for-4 with three singles. Larson singled in the first, third, and fourth innings to help pace the Lancers' attack.
Moraine Valley struck first with a run in the second inning on a fielder's choice. However, CLC quickly responded, reclaiming the lead in the third with an RBI single by Larson and a sacrifice fly from Albert Jaquez. Moraine Valley tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth, but College of Lake County immediately answered in the bottom half, with Blake Twito's RBI single and another RBI single from Larson to make it 4-2.
The Lancers broke the game open in the fifth, scoring five runs on six hits. Angel Berrios drove in a run with a single, Jacob Redker tripled home two runs, Hunter Loser singled in a run, and Tony Gura added another RBI single.
Ethan Peters earned the win for College of Lake County, tossing seven innings while allowing just two unearned runs on six hits, striking out five without issuing a walk.
CLC totaled 12 hits on the day. Redker led the team with three RBIs, while Aidan Roessler and Twito each tallied multiple hits. Roessler and Larson also stole multiple bases, helping the Lancers rack up five steals overall.
For Moraine Valley, #6 and #4 led the way with two hits each, while #26 and #37 each collected an RBI.
College of Lake County will host Kankakee Community College on Sunday for their next matchup.
