GRAYSLAKE, IL
The College of Lake County women's soccer team opened its 2025 campaign in thrilling fashion Friday afternoon, storming back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Harper College, 5-2, at home.
The Lancers (1-0) found themselves in an early hole as Harper struck twice in the opening minutes, seizing a 2-0 advantage. But CLC refused to fold, responding with relentless pressure to even the score by halftime. Sophomore forward
Fabiola Huerta put the Lancers on the board midway through the first half, followed shortly after by a finish from sophomore
Jasmin Mejia to level the match at 2-2 heading into the break.
The second half belonged entirely to the Lancers. Freshman
Kaylan Acosta broke the deadlock with a clinical strike, giving CLC its first lead of the afternoon. Moments later, fellow freshman
Kylie Parisi added insurance with a composed finish. Sophomore
Alejandra Colo capped off the scoring surge with the team's fifth goal, sending the Lancers to victory in emphatic fashion.
Defensively, CLC relied on the steady hands of sophomore goalkeeper
Makayla Doschadis, who recorded eight key saves to keep Harper at bay during critical stretches.
Head coach Kevin Talbot praised the team's resilience after the match. "Going down 2-0 early could have deflated us, but instead the players showed great character and belief. This is the kind of fight we want to see all season."
The Lancers will look to build on their momentum when they return to action September 3 at home for their first conference game vs. Prairie State College. Kickoff is at 4 pm.Â
