College of Lake County suffered a tough 8–7 walk-off loss to South Suburban College on Tuesday at South Suburban.
The game was tied 7–7 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Villanueva delivered the decisive blow, ripping a double to drive in the winning run.
Both teams finished with seven hits in a back-and-forth contest.
South Suburban struck first in the second inning on a solo home run to center field by Fitzpatrick. College of Lake County answered in the third when Colton Ohm launched a solo shot to center to even the score at 1–1.
South Suburban regained control in the fourth inning, taking advantage of an error to plate a run before Perez followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 3–1.
College of Lake County rallied in the eighth inning to take a 5–4 lead. Julio Goyo drove in a run with a single, and Pratim Amin delivered a clutch two-run double.
However, South Suburban responded in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the ninth. An error brought in two runs, Geary added an RBI single, and Villanueva capped the comeback with the game-winning double.
Mish earned the win in relief for South Suburban, allowing two hits and three runs over two-thirds of an inning. Blake Twito took the loss for College of Lake County, giving up the winning run in one-third of an inning.
Matt Self started for College of Lake County, pitching six innings while allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits, with two strikeouts and five walks. King started for South Suburban and struck out nine over six innings, giving up two runs on three hits.
Julio Goyo led College of Lake County with two hits, while Pratim Amin and Angel Berrios each drove in two runs. Eiker Noguera added two stolen bases as the team totaled four steals.
Perez paced South Suburban with two RBIs and went 2-for-3, while both he and Fitzpatrick recorded two hits.
College of Lake County will look to bounce back Wednesday when it faces Black Hawk College at home with a 1:00pm Doubleheader.
