Box Score The Lancers came away with a big 109-100 victory over Waubonsee Community College in double overtime on Tuesday night. Waubonsee led for much of the game, and at one point saw their lead build to as many as 14 points in the first half. At the break, the Lancers trailed 46-37. A Waubonsee layup at the 15:26 mark in the second half pushed their lead back to twelve points. Lake County then responded with a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to tie the game at 56-56 behind a couple of Anthony Thompson (FR/Bolingbrook, IL) buckets in the paint and two big threes from Aaron Greer (FR/Milwaukee, WI). However, Waubonsee then responded with 8 straight points of their own to regain the lead and eventually rebuild the lead to as many as 13 points. Lake County battled back and cut the lead to 4 with a minute to play before Cam Irvin hit one of Waubonsee's 18 made 3's on the night to push the lead to 7 with just 56 seconds remaining. CLC then scored on three straight possessions while locking down on defense to ultimately tie the game at 86-86 with 24 seconds to go after an Anthony Thompson made three point shot. As Waubonsee held for the last shot, Guard D.J. Ellis drove to the basket and was fouled with 1.3 seconds to go. Ellis would miss a pair of free throws sending the game in overtime.
After two quick made 3 pointers by Waubonsee's Asa Williams to start overtime, the Lancers once again faced a six point deficit. The Lancers'
Jarod Stonis (SO/Wauconda, IL) then went on a personal 6-0 run to once again come back and tie the game. Guard
Darien Bosby (FR/Joliet, IL) hit a three with 1:12 remaining to give CLC a 96-93 lead. On the ensuing possession, Waubonsee's Williams nailed another three pointer to once again bring the two teams even at 96-96. In the final possession of overtime, the Lancers held for the last shot and saw an
Anthony Thompson layup attempt bounce off the rim, and a tip-in attempt by
Jaylin Cunningham (FR/Waukegan, IL) come up just short to send the game into double overtime.
It was all Lancers in the second overtime as
Anthony Thompson scored the first six points of the period. A big dunk by
Jarod Stonis then followed, and the Lancers saw their lead grow to as many as twelve before ultimately winning the game 109-100. After the game Coach Fitzgerald was quoted as saying "The resilience we showed tonight as a team was incredible. We faced several large deficits and saw Waubonsee go on several runs but we kept fighting, and kept coming back. We had a lot of guys step up tonight in a lot of big ways."
Jarod Stonis paced the Lancers with 28 points while grabbing 19 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.
Jaylin Cunningham pitched in 21 points while securing 12 rebounds.
Darien Bosby came off the bench to score 20 points while adding 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
Aaron Greer contributed 18 points and 9 rebounds while
Anthony Thompson stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals. Waubonsee was led by Asa Williams who scored 29 points, including 7 made 3's and 21 points from Cam Irvin who made six 3's of his own.
The win pushed the Lancers to 15-5 on the season overall and 3-2 in the Illinois Skyway Conference. Conference play continues Thursday as the College of Lake County Lancers travel to Morton College.
