Game 1: 1-11
The College of Lake County Lancers couldn't keep pace with the McHenry County Scots in an 11-1 road loss on Tuesday at McHenry County College.
The Lancers got on the board early in the top of the first when Michael Fiedor delivered a single to drive in a run. However, McHenry County quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run outburst, highlighted by a triple from Keli Grennier and a two-run double by Christian Graves.
McHenry continued to apply pressure in the second, scoring three more runs—two of which came on a College of Lake County error.
The Scots broke the game open in the fifth inning, plating five more runs on four hits. Jack Stecker and Caden Guenther each singled in a run, Ryan Skwarek added a sacrifice fly, and Owen Nowak capped the inning with a two-run double.
Gabe Ness earned the win on the mound for the Scots, tossing five strong innings and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out nine. Jacob Redker took the loss for the Lancers, surrendering 10 runs (eight earned) over 4.1 innings.
Offensively, Fiedor led the Lancers with a 1-for-2 day and the team's lone RBI. Devin Gudenschwager and Kyle Larson each added a hit, and the Lancers turned a double play defensively.
The Scots collected 10 hits in the game, with Nowak going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs from the heart of the order. Guenther also had a strong game, going 2-for-3 and stealing two bases. McHenry County played a clean game defensively, committing no errors.
Game 2: 1-11
The College of Lake County Lancers were unable to overcome a massive fourth inning by McHenry County, falling 11-1 on Tuesday afternoon at McHenry County College.
The Scots opened the scoring in the first on an RBI groundout by Owen Nowak and tacked on another run in the second with a Jack Stecker double.
In the third, McHenry County extended its lead to 4-0 after a Lancer error and an RBI double to center by Ryan Quinlan.
The game broke wide open in the fourth, when McHenry County erupted for seven runs on seven hits. Caden Guenther and Owen Nowak each drove in runs with singles, Jackson Dibble added a sac fly, and Quinlan, Christian Graves, and Kayden Berenz each delivered RBI hits to stretch the lead to 11-0.
Albert Jaquez provided the lone highlight for the Lancers offensively, going 2-for-3 and driving in the team's only run. College of Lake County totaled six hits in the game and turned a double play defensively.
Kaden Neuman earned the win for McHenry County, allowing one run on six hits over five innings, striking out five without issuing a walk. Brian Buchert took the loss for the Lancers, surrendering 11 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits over 3.2 innings.
McHenry County finished the day with 11 hits, led by two-hit efforts from DJ Harris, Graves, and Quinlan. Quinlan and Nowak each drove in two runs. The Scots played error-free baseball and turned a double play on defense.
The Lancers will look to bounce back on Thursday when they travel to face Madison College.
