Despite matching Madison College with 11 hits on the day, the College of Lake County Lancers fell 10-7 in a hard-fought game Thursday at the Grayslake Campus.
CLC took an early 3-1 lead, fueled by a two-run single from Tony Gura in the first inning and an RBI single by Albert Jaquez down the left field line in the second. But Madison College responded with a big five-run third inning, capped by a clutch three-run double from their No. 8 hitter, swinging the momentum in their favor.
Madison College added insurance in the eighth on a solo homer to center field, while CLC continued to push offensively, tallying 11 total hits and drawing eight walks.
Kyle Larson paced the Lancers' offense with a 3-for-4 day from the leadoff spot. Jaquez, Devin Gudenschwager, and Blake Twito each collected multiple hits, while Gura led the team with two RBIs. Evan Spenk showed patience at the plate, drawing a team-high three walks.
On the mound, Ryder Derouin took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) over 2.2 innings, striking out four. Max Woll pitched 5.1 innings in relief, giving up four runs (two earned) and striking out two.
Madison College finished with 11 hits of their own, led by their leadoff hitter who went 3-for-4 and their No. 8 hitter who drove in three runs.
The Lancers return to action on Saturday when they host Morton College.
