GAME 1: CLC 1 Shelton State 9
College of Lake County fell to Shelton State, 9–1, on Friday at 954 Leon Smith Pkwy.
The Lancers struck first in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of a Shelton State error to plate the game's opening run. However, Shelton State responded in the bottom of the second to take control. A single down the right field line by #5, a walk by #8, and a single to left field by #12 each drove in a run to give Shelton State a 3–1 lead.
Shelton State added to its advantage in the third inning behind another single from #5 and a double by #8, extending the early cushion and keeping the pressure on.
#15 earned the start in the circle for Shelton State, allowing just two hits over 3.2 innings while striking out four and walking one, keeping the Lancers' offense in check.
Cayden VonSande, Megan Livingston, and Skye Meler each recorded a hit for College of Lake County, who also showed patience at the plate by drawing four walks in the contest.
Shelton State finished with 12 hits on the day. #8 led the way offensively with four RBIs from the number eight spot in the lineup, going 2-for-2. #8, #12, #5, #16, and #00 each tallied two hits. Shelton State also turned one double play defensively.
College of Lake County will look to regroup in its next matchup.
GAME 2: CLC 2 Wallace State 8
College of Lake County dropped an 8–2 decision to the Wallace State Lions on Friday at 954 Leon Smith Pkwy.
Wallace State wasted no time getting on the board, as Sertell singled in the first inning to drive in two runs and give the Lions an early advantage.
Cayden VonSande got the start in the circle for the Lancers, throwing 6.1 innings while allowing 12 hits and eight runs (five earned). She struck out two and walked three. Howard went the distance for Wallace State, giving up seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking one to earn the win.
Olivia Peters and Gretchen Hansen each drove in a run for College of Lake County, while Emma Andrews, hitting out of the seven spot, led the Lancers with two hits in three at-bats.
Wallace State totaled 12 hits on the day, with Sertell leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance. Kyser, Jones, and Sertell each recorded two RBIs, while Austin added two hits in three at-bats. Jones swiped two bases as the Lions finished with three stolen bases overall. Defensively, Wallace State was flawless, committing no errors, with Graves leading the way with five plays in the field.
College of Lake County will aim to bounce back in its next contest on Saturday.
