GAME 1: CLC 17 Eglin 0
Lancer Softball erupted for a 17-0 shutout victory over the Elgin Spartans on Sunday in Des Plaines, IL, highlighted by a monster performance from Lindsey Radermacher.
Radermacher drove in five runs on three hits, igniting the Lancers' offense from the heart of the order. She singled in the third to plate two, launched a two-run home run to left in the fourth, and later tripled in the fourth to drive in two more.
CLC set the tone early, opening the scoring in the first when Skye Meler singled home a run. The Lancers added two more in the second after an Elgin error and an RBI single down the right field line from Olivia Peters.
The game broke wide open in the fourth as College of Lake County exploded for 10 runs. Kaylin Worley started the rally with a two-run single. Radermacher followed with her two-run homer, Peters electrified the crowd with an inside-the-park two-run home run, Meler ripped an RBI triple, an error brought another run across, and Radermacher capped the inning with a two-run triple.
Peters was dominant in the circle, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just two hits. The right-hander struck out seven and did not issue a walk. Atchison took the loss for Elgin after surrendering 10 runs (eight earned) over three innings.
The Lancers pounded out 15 hits in the win. Radermacher and Worley were relentless hitting back-to-back, each collecting three hits. Peters and Meler added multiple-hit performances. On the basepaths, Cayden VonSande, Meler, and Worley each stole multiple bases as CLC racked up 11 steals. The Lancers also showed patience at the plate, drawing five walks.
Defensively, CLC was flawless once again, committing zero errors. Tyler Brock led the way with five defensive chances.
Ventura and Aguinaga recorded the lone hits for Elgin as College of Lake County completed a dominant all-around performance.
GAME 2: CLC 7 Joliet 0
College of Lake County blanked Joliet Junior College 7-0 on Sunday in Des Plaines, IL behind a dominant performance from Sophia Zepeda in the circle.
Zepeda was in complete control all afternoon, tossing a four-hit shutout and never allowing a run to cross. She kept Joliet off balance from start to finish, setting the tone for the Lancers defensively.
College of Lake County broke through in the top of the third inning. Tyler Brock drove in a run with a ground out, and Skye Meler followed with an RBI single down the right field line to extend the lead.
Cayden VonSande and Kaylin Worley sparked the offense, each collecting two hits. Brock, VonSande, Addison Schroeder, and Meler each drove in a run as the Lancers steadily built their advantage. On the base paths, VonSande swiped two bags, helping CLC total six stolen bases in the game.
Defensively, the Lancers were flawless once again, committing zero errors. Brock anchored the defense with a team-high eight chances in the field.
Joliet scattered four hits from four different players and showed patience at the plate with four walks, but could not push a run across.
College of Lake County returns to action Saturday with a road match up against Sauk Valley Community College.
