GAME 1: CLC 24 Sauk Valley 0
Skye Meler collected three hits in five at bats as College of Lake County rolled past Sauk Valley CC 24-0 on Sunday in Dixon. Meler tripled in the first inning, doubled in the second, and doubled again in the third to lead the offensive explosion.
College of Lake County wasted no time jumping out in front in the top of the first inning. Meler's triple plated two runs, an error brought in another, Cayden VonSande scored after tagging up, and Addison Schroeder added an RBI single to give CLC an early cushion.
CLC continued to build the lead in the second inning. Brock drove in a run with a ground out, while a pair of Sauk Valley errors and a Kaylin Worley single down the left field line each brought in another run.
The Lancers broke the game open in the third, scoring six runs on four hits. An error scored two runs before VonSande tripled to drive in another. Another error added a run, while Olivia Peters and Gretchen Hansen followed with RBI singles.
College of Lake County added five more runs in the fifth inning. Hansen scored after tagging up, Meler drove in a run with a groundout, Worley delivered an RBI single, and Peters capped the inning with a two-run double.
Peters earned the win in the circle for CLC, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings while striking out six and walking none. VonSande was dominant in relief, tossing two no-hit innings with five strikeouts.
The Lancers finished with 17 hits on the day. Meler and Worley each collected three hits, while Peters and Worley led the way with four RBIs apiece. VonSande, Schroeder, and Hansen also recorded multiple hits.
CLC showed patience at the plate, drawing four walks, with Tyler Brock and Megan Livingston each earning two. Livingston also swiped three bases as the Lancers totaled five steals in the game.
Sauk Valley's #00 recorded the team's lone hit, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Sauk Valley also turned one double play defensively.
GAME 2: CLC 9 Sauk Valley 0
College of Lake County defeated Sauk Valley CC 9-0 on Sunday in Dixon as two pitchers combined for a dominant shutout performance. Sophia Zepeda and Nadia McCabe handled the work in the circle, with Zepeda recording the final out by striking out Sauk Valley's #55.
CLC opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Kaylin Worley started the rally with a double to center field and later scored after tagging up. Megan Livingston followed with a single down the right field line to bring home another run and give the Lancers an early lead.
Zepeda was outstanding in relief, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. The right-hander struck out 11 and walked two in a dominant outing.
McCabe got the start for College of Lake County, throwing three scoreless innings. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit while striking out two and walking none.
Sauk Valley's #26 started in the circle and worked 6.1 innings, allowing 13 hits and nine runs (seven earned) while walking two.
The Lancers totaled 13 hits in the game. Lindsey Radermacher drove in two runs from the seventh spot in the lineup, finishing 1-for-3 on the day. McCabe, hitting ninth, led CLC with three hits in four at-bats. Cayden VonSande, Zepeda, and Emma Andrews each recorded multiple hits.
CLC was also aggressive on the basepaths, stealing five bases in the game. VonSande and Andrews each swiped multiple bags.
For Sauk Valley CC, #9 and #3 each recorded one hit.
College of Lake County will be back in action Monday, March 9, with a road game at MATC.
