Game 1: CLC 10 South Suburban 2
College of Lake County rolled to a dominant 10-2 victory over South Suburban College on Saturday in Des Plaines, IL.
The Lancers wasted no time setting the tone, exploding for five runs in the top of the first inning. Tyler Brock got the scoring started with an RBI single, while aggressive pressure forced multiple errors that plated two more. Schroeder capped the inning with a two-run single to give CLC early control.
Brock added to the lead in the second with an RBI ground out, pushing the advantage to 6-1. Gretchen Hansen stretched it further in the third with a run-scoring double, and the Lancers broke it open in the fourth. Brock electrified the dugout with a solo inside-the-park home run, Cayden VonSande laced an RBI double, and Kaylin Worley followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 10-1.
Nadia McCabe was sharp in the circle, earning the win after allowing just five hits and two runs over five innings. She struck out two and did not issue a walk. Richmond took the loss for South Suburban, surrendering 11 hits and 10 runs (six earned) in three innings of work.
CLC's offense pounded out 13 hits on the day. Brock, VonSande, Addison Schroeder, Worley, and Emma Andrews each tallied two hits, while Brock and Schroeder drove in two runs apiece. Megan Livingston and Schroeder were active on the bases, helping the Lancers swipe eight total stolen bases in the game.
Defensively, CLC was flawless, committing zero errors. Livingston led the way with four chances in the field.
Green and Abeyta each drove in a run for South Suburban, while Munoz went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.
The Lancers will hit the road Saturday as they travel to face Waubonsee Community College.
GAME 2: CLC 12 Waubonsee 4
College of Lake County powered past Waubonsee Community College 12-4 on Saturday in Des Plaines, IL, using early offense and aggressive base running to control the game from the start.
The Lancers struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. A Waubonsee error brought in one run, and Emma Andrews followed with an RBI single down the right field line to make it 2-0.
CLC kept the pressure on in the second. Megan Livingston delivered an RBI single, and Skye Meler ripped a two-run double to stretch the lead. In the third, Kaylin Worley brought the crowd to its feet with a two-run inside-the-park home run, widening the gap and giving the Lancers full momentum.
Cayden VonSande earned the win in the circle, allowing just three hits and four runs, none earned, over six innings. She struck out one and walked two. Marks took the loss for Waubonsee after giving up nine hits and nine runs (seven earned) in three and one-third innings.
The Lancers finished with 11 hits on the day. Meler anchored the middle of the lineup with three RBIs while going 2-for-3. Meler, Gretchen Hansen, Worley, and Andrews each recorded two hits. On the basepaths,Tyler Brock, Livingston, and Andrews each stole multiple bases as CLC racked up eight total steals.
Fraus, Moore, and Torrance each collected a hit for Waubonsee, while Rivera, Fraus, and Moore each drove in a run. Waubonsee turned one double play defensively.
College of Lake County will be back in action Sunday as they face Elgin and Joliet in Des Plaines, IL.
